Antelope Valley is nestled in Mono County and lies in the breath taking Eastern Sierras. Mono County is amply named, as "Mono" in the Native American tongue means beautiful. The Walker River flows through the communities of Walker, Coleville and Topaz, where it eventually spills into Topaz Lake. Anglers travel from all over to fish these waters for Brown, Rainbow & Lahontan trout. Come and visit & you too will be drawn to this beautiful valley. One last glimpse into California's golden past.... here the West is still wild. Stay awhile at one of the area's numerous campgrounds, RV parks or motels. Enjoy the day boating, water skiing, jet skiing or picnicking at Topaz Lake. Try your hand with "lady luck" at Topaz Lodge & Casino, which features Las Vegas style gaming. Take a break - have lunch at one of the area's local restaurants and enjoy the "small town" ambiance. Spend an afternoon scouring antique shops, gift shops and Native American galleries. There is endless beauty in this vast valley. Take a hike through the back country. Go rock climbing on Sonora Pass on Highway 108. Take a ride on an ATV in search of undiscovered terrain. Mount your horse or motorcycle and head off on an adventure. Pack your tent and sleep underneath a starry sky, nestled among the pinions surrounded by serenity and solitude. Seek out back country streams and springs. Go for a dip in a Natural Hot Spring. Go gold panning in a pristine blue creek or perhaps explore if you are a rock hound, explore an old mine. Enjoy breathtaking views and skies that are so blue and clear, that they appear unreal to the naked eye. You may cross paths with bald eagles, bear, beaver, badgers, deer or other wildlife. If you don't own your own horse or are new to the outdoor experience, stop in at a local pack station. Embrace the beauty of a waterfall at Leavitt Meadows. Find yourself - in the majestic wonder of the Eastern Sierras and Antelope Valley. Early settlers were drawn to the area by the allure of finding their fortune in gold & silver. The towns of Bodie, Aurora, Masonic and Coleville emerged. Bodie today is a California State Park and a National Historic site. Located south of Bridgeport (Mono county seat), you can view buildings and belongings left by the former inhabitants who were only able to take with them, what they could pack on a wagon when they left Bodie. The former sites of Masonic & Aurora are north east of Bridgeport off Highway 182.
